The first thing that attracts our attention in the Kershaw Leek 1660CB is the characteristic wavy line running along the blade, which is the place where two types of steel are joined. The 75 mm long blade is made of the so-called composite steel , i.e. a kind of hybrid consisting of Swedish 14C28N stainless steel hardened in the range of 58-60 HRC (upper part of the blade) and D2 chrome steel (cutting edge). Due to the high purity of the alloy and the admixture of nitrogen, 14C28N is characterized by high hardness and increased corrosion resistance. The highly hardened D2 tool steel used in the lower part is distinguished by very high hardness and wear resistance , which for the user means long maintenance of working sharpness and extremely aggressive cutting . The slim blade with an aggressive wharncliffe profile has a uniform, sandblasted matte finish. Thanks to the use of a narrow point, concave grind and a cutting edge with an almost straight line, the knife has excellent cutting properties and the blade does not get stuck in the material . The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 3 mm, which is a compromise between the durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work. Comfort of use The blade can be unfolded with one hand in two ways : using a milled flipper or using a double-sided pin, thus enabling the choice of the method in accordance with our preferences. Both solutions are convenient for both right- and left-handed users, they also allow for convenient operation of the knife with gloves. The opening process is facilitated by the SpeedSafe assist mechanism . When you press down on the flipper fin, the assist mechanism activates an internal spring that dynamically extends the blade, making the knife ready for use in a fraction of a second. Two locks The monolithic frame-lock , considered to be one of the most durable locking mechanisms, effectively protects against accidental folding of the blade . The main lock is supported by an additional Tip Safety Lock securing mechanism . A slide lock located in the upper part of the knife prevents accidental opening of the blade in the folded position . Reversible clip Discreet carrying of the knife in the pocket is possible thanks to the high-mounted clip with the possibility of mounting on both sides of the handle.
