Dielectric multilayer reflective coatings were used on the roof prisms, instead of the aluminum coatings used in cheaper models of binoculars. The dielectric coating increases the light reflectance, resulting in a sharper, more natural image. The Razor HD 8 × 42 binoculars have a magnesium housing, used to reduce weight without losing strength. The binoculars are filled with argon, which prevents fogging of the lenses in an environment with high humidity or sudden changes in temperature. Contrary to the most commonly used nitrogen, argon is a much heavier gas, which prevents it from escaping from inside the binoculars.
