The Walther ERK Emergency Rescue Knife is an advanced rescue knife equipped with a serrated blade, an emergency glass breaker, a seat belt cutting blade and fluorescent inserts to increase the visibility of the knife in the dark. The knife uses a large (95 mm) drop-point blade made of 440A stainless steel . The steel grade used ensures high mechanical strength of the cutting edge, resistance to corrosion and chipping, and the possibility of quick sharpening with a standard sharpener. The cutting edge is partially serrated , which is especially important in emergency situations, because the rescuer is often forced to cut fibrous materials, e.g. tapes, clothes, ropes, etc. The use of concave cut makes the cut very smooth and the blade does not get stuck in the cut material. An enlarged disk is used to unfold the blade, which allows the knife to be operated with gloves. The cutters on the back of the blade act as a ramp for the thumb or index finger, thus facilitating the operation of the knife. The liner-lock mechanism plays the role of the blockade , valued for its durability, simplicity and comfort of use. The ergonomic handle, made of rubber linings and steel reinforcing inserts , is responsible for the comfort and durability of the tool . Fluorescent inserts were applied to the handle , glowing for a few seconds in the dark after prior irradiation. On board the knife there are two important rescue tools, i.e. an emergency glass breaker and a special blade for safe cutting of car belts .
